This newly created chair will represent the information systems discipline in research and teaching. Applicants should have a main research interest in the area of AI-based business information systems and place a special focus on explainable AI. Of particular interest is a research focus in the context of the economic value of AI technologies, design of software development processes in business organisations as well as analysis and design of AI-based information systems.
The chairholder is expected to teach foundation and advanced courses for the interdisciplinary B.Sc. Information Systems and M.Sc. Information Systems degree programmes, as well as at the doctoral level, in German and English. Active participation in collaborative efforts to acquire third-party funding, including for consortium projects and from coordinated external research funding programmes, in the continuing profile-building of the University of Passau in the field of "Digitalisation, Networked Society and (Internet) Cultures" as well as in academic self-governance is desirable. Cooperation with the other professorships of the new university institute on AI and sustainability (KINECT) and within KI-Netzwerk Bayern (the Bavarian AI network) is expected. The DFG Research Training Group 2720 "Digital Platform Ecosystems (DPE) – Digital Platform-based Value Creation and its Implications for Data Exchange, Organisation and Socio-economic Development", which started its work in 2022, offers possible further points of contact.
The School of Business, Economics and Information Systems is a young faculty that is particularly innovative and dynamic. Economic and societal relevance, innovation and interdisciplinarity are the cornerstones of our research activities, which include basic and application-oriented research as well as knowledge transfer. Our focus areas are Accounting, Finance and Taxation (AFT), Economics (ECON), Management, Innovation and Marketing (MIM), Information Systems (WINFO) and Quantitative Methods (QM).
Academics at our five faculties conduct research, teaching and knowledge transfer activities at the cutting edge and according to the most exacting standards. Europe, sustainability and digitalisation are particular focal points of intensive inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration within the University and with our many national and international partners. Chair of Information Systems with a focus on Explainable AI-based Business Information Systems (pay grade W3)

Ihre Aufgaben
We are particularly interested in candidates who have gained strong international visibility through high-impact publications in leading international information systems journals and are able to work on information systems research problems using methods at the international knowledge frontier. Candidates should have experience in the acquisition of external (third-party) funding and are expected to be willing to participate in collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects and contribute to third-party funding applications.The chairholder is expected to teach foundation and advanced courses for the interdisciplinary B.Sc. Ihre Qualifikation
The successful candidate will be educated to doctoral level and have demonstrated both pedagogical aptitude and academic excellence, whereby the latter is generally established on the basis of the quality of his or her doctoral research and subsequent academic achievements. He or she will, furthermore, possess the German formal postdoctoral habilitation qualification or an equivalent body of academic achievements garnered whilst employed at an institution of higher education, for instance as a juniorprofessor or in a comparable position with a different title (e.g. assistant professor or lecturer), insofar as the duties and qualification profile correspond to those of a juniorprofessor position; the habilitation-equivalent achievements may also have been attained outside the higher education system. In accordance with Art. 60(3) sentence 1 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG), candidates must not be more than 52 years of age at the time of their appointment.Ihre Vorteile
